The Shijia Hutong Museum is located at No. 24 Shijia Hutong, which is a two-in-one courtyard. In a broad sense, it shows the entire history of Shijia Hutong. Walking in the museum, visitors might experienced its unique atmosphere and charm, as well as feel the long history and culture of Beijing.

Shijia Hutong museum experience redesign project is a service design project which aims to find the leak point through visiting. After identify some potential improvements for better experience, I design several interactive installations to help visitors absorb knowledge effectively and with fun.

What is the initial purpose to built your museum?

First we just wanted to leave a record about that the historic Hutong for the later generations. But now when it is bigger and bigger, and contains more and more exhibits, we hope that it can undertake the responsibility for spreading Chinese culture.

Though it is a traditional museum, I still want to add something new and make my museum more active and energetic. Hope that more visitors can step into the yard and appreciating the charm of Hutong.

* Map box

A device with guidance and map on it, which can spit out the map paper after visitors scanning QR code.

* Stamp activity

A activity that help visitors read and absorb knowledge effectively and with fun. It is showed on the map brochure, and with a stamp box.

* Sounds memory

A interactive installation collaborated sounds with light, scene and image, based on the current sounds room
